Letter from the editor
In Journalism, we publish up-to-date information, not only to inform, but also to entertain our readers. Divided into sections, we cover a wide variety of topics including athletics, activities, VAPA (visual and performing arts), and spotlights on teachers, staff, or students. Our leadership team is constantly working to improve our coverage, organization, and strategy. Our purpose is to help our readers gain awareness about real life events that are happening inside and outside our middle school. With a general staff of 23 students and 6 leaders, including the journalism teacher, Mrs. Garcia, it can be challenging at times to communicate what everyone is writing about, but through perseverance and determination, everything is published on time. More information can be found on our student-ran website.
Our journalists provide accurate information through interviews via email or in person, and by researching their discussion topic ahead of time. This way we have the most precise content, delivered straight to our readers through our online newsletter, Mav News.
Through this outlet, we can express ourselves through our writing. Our creativity shows through our words and the risks we are willing to take whilst writing. Whether it be the most exciting event worldwide, or just a local event, journalists writing for Mav News can show their personalities. The more we write and the harder we try, we can keep pushing through all the challenges ahead.
As it is our first year, we are setting the foundation of this elective, in hopes that students will decide they want to also be journalists in later years. We hope to continue this course for students of the future.
